Sim Racing - Button Box Controls

Hi there. As a D-Box avid sim racer - it would be really (and I mean really ) useful to be able to assign a keystroke to the various slider controls in the Game centre ā€˜setups’ in the motion code windows etc.

Perhaps not every slider, but certainly the ā€˜main level etc’ which would allow ā€˜tuning’ on the fly perhaps via a button box or streamdeck page.

Also - a motion ā€˜toggle’ similar to an e-stop might be useful which could similarly be assigned to a bitton or control.

Us Sim chaps often have button boxes and streamdecks to provide functionality - something that SRS recognised with their controller app quite quickly and added.

Make it happen if you can !!

@devs -no reply or no thought about a possible improvement to software ?

Other apps/hardware mix even have phone app controls - is there nothing can be done?

What about start / stop motion assignable to a key or button press ?

Your profiles for motion are good, but there’s not much beyond the basic controls thus far - lets keep D-box right up there in terms of motion and sims and the overall user experience!

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately, we do not plan in the future to offer such a functionality.

Nevertheless, you would find in [Username]/appData/Roaming/D-BOX/Gaming/[YourGame] a file named: dbxMotionConfig.xml

This file contains all of the settings your input in the Game Center ā€œSetupā€.

As all of these variables are public, you might find a way with to program and make these values change on the fly with your streamdeck.

Note: Values in this XML can be changed on the fly without having to restart the game.

Note-2: Do it at your own risk. By changing these values, you might damage or brake the platform/actuators.

Note-3: This XML file might change in the future, as a result this functionality might not be available in future release of Motion Core.

Thanks,

Hi Frederique

Appreciate you coming back to me.

Might well consider this - thank you for your pointers, I very much appreciate them.

It is such a shsame that DBox don’t really offer much in terms of improvement in terms of the user experience other than individual profiles for sims. I appreciate that there was the general purpose of anygame/any device, but last time I tried it, it didn’t work with hotas controls, and thus didn’t seem all that useful.

The hardware motion stuff is so top-of-its-game, its such a shame to stifle the user experience behind quite a basic looking software package, when other motion platforms offer such flexibiliy - some have phone apps with which you can adjust parameters in real time, in the rig and with the sim running.

However, I do appreciate that D-Box is a long established platform, and by these standards, these new ā€˜upstart’ entries to the motion platform arena might be trying hard to impress :grinning:

Thanks again for your tips in terms of the XML - I’m off to have a look at it, and appreciate its a non-supported method, and might introduce problems. Tiny changes and backups will be key !

Lets see if I can build something around it - I think sim platform users would benefit from it.

Cheers ! :crossed_fingers:

Hi Colin, I completely agree with you on that. I’ve asked the same couple months ago on the facebook page. For programmers this is actually a pretty simple thing to do! Let me know if you found a way to do that in the XML file.

This would be awesome to have a panic-off button to use for the motion like we do with direct-drive wheels. I tried having an inline switch for mine, but it wouldn’t work. The actuators seem to require to be plugged straight into for power. What about having a USB switch for the one USB cable for the control box? If we closed off power to that USB would that stop the motion? If so that would be a quick possible fix unless again it always has to be plugged directly into the PC.
